Microsoft will be releasing a new version of Office for Mac this year, according to German Office head Thorsten Hübschen. Shortly after, a company spokeswoman confirmed the news in a statement obtained by Macworld, claiming that current Office 365 subscribers will be eligible to receive the new version of Office for Mac for free…
“The team is hard at work on the next version of Office for Mac,” she said in an email. “While I don’t have details to share on timing, when it’s available, Office 365 subscribers will automatically get the next Office for Mac at no additional cost.”
Office for Mac was last released in 2011, making the nearly four-year-old productivity suite rather outdated compared to more recent versions for Windows. The all-new 2014 edition will include an improved user interface and added functionality that will make it closer on par with the PC version.
