The new Office apps are sitting in the top three positions of the free apps for the iPad in the United States. Number one is Word, two is Excel, and three is PowerPoint. OneNote is also sitting at number four. Perhaps more importantly is that Microsoft Word is currently at number five in the top grossing section, and climbing — that means that a lot of people are making use of the $99 Office 365 in-app purchase that Microsoft is offering to unlock editing capabilities in these apps.
It’s not super surprising, given the pent-up demand and the popularity of these apps on the desktop, but it does seem as if the iPad Office suite will be a booming business for Microsoft.
